Autumn can be a lovely time of year and this has been a spectacular one to enjoy outside. Apparently it doesn't happen often. The colours of the trees have been lovely. For me this has been augmented by the number of migrant birds to be seen. I have never seen so many Wigeon: a very pretty duck; both male and female. We have also seen the return of Golden eye - looks like a tufted duck but prettier. We have also been blessed, apparently, with a Dusky Warbler(DW) from Siberia. Now I'm a bird watcher - I watch all birds and delight in them. If there are 'twitchers' among you, then I apologise in advance for what I am about to say. The antics of this "breed" have caused us angst over the past few days. They turn up in droves, ignore social distancing, point huge telephoto lenses, block paths and churn them up into mud baths. Those of you that saw my comments on Penny's posts will know that I am a rabid tenor who enjoys his natural surroundings. (In my own defence I do try not to pass on my rabid condition to either humans or animals). Since the start of the original lockdown, my pal (who, to protect the innocent, will be known as C) and I have been almost daily visitors to The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust (NWT) reserve called Skylarks in Holme Pierrepoint which is approximately 2 miles from my home. Both C and I are in our 70s and have underlying conditions which might cause problems if we catch Covid. For that reason we are always careful to socially distance and take all necessary precautions. We do that anyway but we don't travel to the hide together, we both cycle and I alternate with walking. The times that we arrive at the hide coincide. I rely on C to give guidance on bird identification (he has been birdwatching seriously for many years). We also pick up tips from other birders that we me...

 Hi Folks, I hope this means I can originate posts on the blog. Today's excitements from a Skylarks visit were the sighting of a Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Snipe and the return of a pair of Golden Eye. I will upload images in future.

  Hi All I've just returned from a walking holiday in the Lake District, centered around Keswick, where we've climbed every mountain (well some anyway), forded every stream we've encountered, and looked for rainbows to follow but the weather was too good for those.  No prizes for guessing the song reference!! 🎵 We've played crazy golf, pitch and putt, found some fine restaurants, and maybe got through a bit of wine and beer.  Good to be back but now in need of a rest.  🌞😎
